Sciatica During Pregnancy
Sciatica is a neurological condition that is caused by the impingement of the sciatic nerve. Although sciatica is usually temporary and self-limiting, it can cause excruciating, protracted pain. Women who are pregnant sometimes experience sciatic nerve pain as the result of the gravid uterus exerting pressure on the sciatic nerve. Symptoms of sciatica include pain in the lower back and buttock area, which often radiates down the back of the leg. Other symptoms may include tingling, numbness and a burning sensation, and symptoms can occasionally be mistaken for those of a herniated lumbar disc. Read more…
